POET POSTER SERIES

This was a set of posters created for a series of events at the Bow Tie Cafe exploring the ever-changing landscape of legendary American poets, featuring Allen Ginsberg, Edgar Allan Poe, and Paul Dunbar.
For this project, I researched each of these poets, and I noticed a trend in their lives. Each of their lives were very heavily impacted by women, which was reflected in their writing. Poe wrote about the lovers in his life, while Ginsberg wrote about his mother, and Dunbar wrote about his difficult life while being raised by a single mother. I wanted to focus on how these poets were impacted by these women for the posters, so I took pictures of a statue of a woman with her arms outstretched, and put the names of the poets in her hands, as if she’s carrying them. The green bars signified the rhythms in their poetry when spoken, while also tying the three posters together.
