POPSICLE PACKAGING

I was tasked with documenting a regulated creative habit of my choice, performed for no more than 20 minutes per day for 10 days, and then create an application based off of my investigation. The application concept may take the form of any type of design. For my 10 days, I chose to photograph different fruits. I wanted an excuse to eat more exotic fruit, as well as practice some food photography.

In the beginning, my topic was photographing fruit peel remnants. I chose this topic in order to work on my food photography skills. During the process, I decided that I didn’t want to just photograph the peels of fruit, so I started to photograph the whole fruit. As for my application, I decided to explore popsicle packaging. The photos I took were bright, fun, and appetizing, and I enjoy working on packaging design, so when someone in our group suggested this application, I was intrigued. Working on this project was a refreshing break from the muggy heat of a Cincinnati summer.

The last three images are the final keylines of the three popsicle flavors I created. I settled on three flavors in order to show a wide variety of colors/design. I went through a few different concepts for these, but finally decided on food-centric packaging for the front and side panels. For the back panel, I created a tutorial to make a bird house with the discarded popsicle sticks. I’m a big advocate for reducing, reusing, and recycling, so I wanted to encourage others to do the same.
